Bubby Art
It all begins with an idea. Bubby was just a little doodle I made while talking to a friend and instantly I knew that she was going to be something special.
Bubby is an imaginary friend of mine that helps guide me. She’s a little red hexagon girl flying around the clouds and is on a journey to find her true place in the world.

Bubby, Let’s Go Home
Bubby is an imaginary friend that goes through the trials of life through fantasy.
Bubby’s origins begin when young Labiba witnesses her parents fighting in the car, so she plays a magical dvd she found from a mysterious video store where an episode of Bubby, Let’s Go Home begins. We see Bubby living in the Kingdom of Clouds, a place where everything is supposed to be perfect. Bubby, however, felt really out of place. She flies away from the Kingdom, but accidentally crashes into the waters below, saved by a paper boat. She goes across the sea all on her own to find a new place to call home. Through each story, Bubby explores new places and makes new friends on her journey. In the end, home was the adventures she made along the way.

Labiba is a communications designer whose work is guided by self-reflection coupled with stylized nostalgia. This mural captures her shifting connection with spirituality through her self-insert character, Bubby (on the left). Bubby is an ephemeral imaginary friend that allows Labiba to express the complexities of life through an idealised, whimsical lens of fantasy. The imposing figure to the right depicts her cat, Poppie (also known as Popsicle). The cat peeking through the clouds serves as a tether to the material universe outside of fantasy. Cats are curious animals, as pets they tend to keep to themselves, they demand care and expect tolerance of bites and scratches. Yet their presence always brings happiness and comfort to their owners. Sometimes the universe feels distant, its scale and vastness rendering it unrecognisable. But this pale blue dot, though surrounded by the abyss, contains the only heaven we know. It’s worth preserving even through days when all it seems to do is bite and scratch.
